Job description

Location: Westminster, London
Salary: Voluntary
Closing date: 9am Thursday 5 February 2026
About the Organisation
Walterton and Elgin Community Homes (WECH) is community-owned and run by the people who live here, putting residents at the heart of every decision. We manage 674 homes in the Harrow Road Ward of North Westminster, as well as a community centre, a park and a variety of community and commercial spaces. We also run social and community activities to bring people together and support our neighbourhood.
With a rich and proud history, WECH is celebrated as a model of what resident-led housing can achieve, revitalising homes and neighbourhoods while building strong, inclusive and empowered communities. Having recently marked our 40th anniversary, we continue to grow, learn and make a difference every day.
The Role
We are now seeking a Board Member to join our Board and shape the strategic direction and long-term sustainability of our unique housing association, to help guide us through the next chapter of our journey. As one of four Expert Board Members, you will sit alongside our Resident Board Members as an equal, sharing full collective responsibility for the organisation while honouring and strengthening WECH’s resident-led ethos.
Our governance model is built on partnership, combining lived experience with professional expertise, working side by side to make better decisions, strengthen services and safeguard our future. For this role we are looking for a candidate with experience in building repairs, maintenance and compliance, within the social housing sector.
Who we’re looking for
You will be confident in offering constructive challenge, while remaining open, humble and willing to listen. You will bring integrity, a genuine commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and a clear passion for resident-led services.
Above all, you will believe in the power of communities to shape their own futures.
We offer a comprehensive induction, along with ongoing training and development to help you feel confident and supported in the role. The time commitment involves 10 meetings a year (7 Board meetings and 3 Operations Committee meetings), alongside preparation time and occasional community events.
The role is voluntary, with reasonable expenses reimbursed, and provides invaluable experience for personal development, insight and growth.
Why Join Us
If you are inspired by the idea of using your strategic, technical and people skills to support a resident-controlled organisation that genuinely does things differently, please read through the Candidate Brief below for more information.
WECH is proud of its diversity and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds who share our values and commitment to inclusive, community-led housing.
