Job Title: Chair – this role is now closed for applications

Board Chair

Hornsey, North London

£3,500 per annum

A great opportunity to chair a small Housing Trust

Hornsey Housing Trust (HHT) is a small but ambitious housing association which celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2023. Established in the 1930s by the notable social reformer Margaret Hill, we retain our founding principles to provide good housing for people on low incomes. We focus on housing older people in Hornsey and the wider Haringey area, a rapidly increasing demographic. We are proud of our legacy, and keen to find new ways to fulfil it as we move towards our centenary.

Our present Chair, June Barnes, will step down in 2024 after serving a full term on the Board and we are recruiting a new Chair to join the Trust as we embark on the delivery of our new 5-year corporate plan.

We are looking for a candidate who will lead and inspire the board, generate a strong team spirit, work collaboratively and build consensus. Your understanding of the social housing sector and its current and future challenges should be complemented by your ability to demonstrate passion and commitment to our purpose, and a desire to make a positive difference to the lives of our tenants, our local communities and the future of HHT.

Ideally candidates will draw upon both their executive and non-executive experience and have a background from the social housing sector.  Strong business acumen, ambassadorial skills, and a keen insight into good governance and risk management are also essential.

Empathy with our tenants and an interest or local connection with the area are important aspects of this role as is your alignment with our values: caring, collaborative, curious and committed.

We are dedicated to ensuring an inclusive recruitment process and are open to considering any reasonable adjustments needed by candidates at any stage of the recruitment process. We also offer reasonable adjustments to ensure the effective ongoing participation of newly recruited Board members.

Haringey is a wonderfully diverse borough, our tenants are equally diverse and we encourage applications from members of different ethnic and cultural groups and of all protected characteristics.

Our board convenes four times a year, on Thursdays (early evening) for face-to-face meetings, in addition to an AGM and a Board strategy day.

If this challenge appeals to you and you share our commitment to meeting the current and future needs of older and vulnerable people in Haringey, whilst placing our tenants at the heart of our decision making, please find out more by clicking on the candidate brief below.
